Fine-art photographer, creative director, and author Claiborne Swanson Frank was raised in San Francisco, California. Swanson Frank moved to New York in 2007 and worked at Vogue under editor in chief Anna Wintour. Shortly thereafter, she began to pursue a career in photography and created her first body of work: a collection of portraits of the women in her life, which served as inspiration for her debut book, American Beauty, published in 2012 by Assouline. Swanson Frank’s cover image for American Beauty, of model Lily Aldridge, was on display at the de Young Museum in San Francisco in 2012. Soon after the release of American Beauty, Swanson Frank moved to Los Angeles and began working on Young Hollywood (Assouline), her second book of portraits, released in 2014. In 2018, she published her best-selling book, Mother and Child (Assouline), which is now in its ninth edition. In addition to creating her books, she has collaborated with many American and European fashion, jewelry, and beauty brands, such as Estée Lauder, Ferragamo, Michael Kors, Aerin, Veronica Beard, Brent Neale, and Clé de Peau, among others. Swanson Frank most recently collaborated with Brunello Cucinelli, who served as her sponsor in the creation of her book Father and Child. She has also contributed to various editorial publications, such as Vanity Fair, Town & Country, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Porter, and Architectural Digest. In spring 2021, she released her first fine-art series of photographs, of modern botanicals. She resides in Greenwich, Connecticut, with her husband, James, and their sons, Hunter and Wilder.

THE ART OF LUXURY BOOKMAKING

The respect for the product and the process of creation is evident in every facet – the traditional technique of hand-binding covers, the imagery that transports the reader to another place and time, the luxurious thickness of each page.
